Rebuilding Your Home or Business After A Catastrophe Webinar

Introduction

Managing construction is hard, even for professionals. When rebuilding or repairing after a catastrophe, the likelihood of non-professionals (like homeowners who just lost their home) making less-than-optimal decisions increases dramatically. The closest thing to a guarantee of success is good counsel from trusted and proven professionals, applying a proven process, and using and sharing good information.

Construction Management principles and practices are well developed, time-tested, and taught in construction management and engineering programs all over the world. And yet, the industry often doesn’t mandate or even hold these skills in high esteem; especially in the restoration business. Rebuilding After a Catastrophe is a complex construction project, so professional construction contracting discipline should be applied from beginning to end.

This program is an overview of a systematic process or framework, a "map of the terrain" so-to-speak, that begins with evaluating the property; then defining the scope, budget and schedule of the repair or replacement work; vetting project players and contracting for the work; professionally managing the work, including the inherent changes during the process, and ultimately closing-out the project. The authors and presenters have each worked on thousands of buildings in their long careers and are now leaders in a national firm whose origins date to repairing homes after the 1994 Northridge Earthquake.
